They suddenly came from no where. With minutes to go, winter-weathered walkers scurried from cheaper car parks to Art Deco magnificence - Leamington Spa`s Railway station. Yes, South Midlands were doing History – and the White Horse for Xmas dinner – whatever Storm ( Stormzy) Darragh might say.
Via Jephson Gardens, Georgian High Streets and numerous Elephants we heard about Sir Frank Whittle`s invention and puzzled over installation art. Our leader, History Lord Clifford, showed us former bomb sites, hotels with backstories, architectural delights and a magnificent Old Library which was NOT a Wetherspoons. We also found out `what `something in the waters` actually meant. As if on cue, rain came down, The River Leam foamed and we fled to a warm and welcoming Pump Room cafe
A leisurely lunch followed down the road, conversation flowed , bills were settled and yes, the British Rapper Stormzy known for Grime Rock did in fact serve his apprenticeship in genteel Leamington Spa.
Many thanks to Cliff, Matt, and to John - our hugely efficient coordinator.
