What a brilliant day! Yesterday’s GOC walk from Orwell to Wimpole Hall was a true highlight—despite the weather doing its best to show off every possible mood, from torrential rain to dazzling sunshine and everything in between.
A big thank you to our walk leader, Steve, whose local knowledge and warmth made the day extra special. His fascinating insights into the Wimpole Estate, drawn from his experience as a volunteer there, added real depth to the walk and gave us a much richer sense of the history and beauty around us.
The route itself was varied and rewarding, with rolling countryside, atmospheric skies, and that lovely sense of shared connection that these walks generate so effortlessly.
Steve’s hospitality at the end of the day was the perfect finish—tea, good conversation, and a selection of cake, including a carrot cake with a rumoured (and rather mysterious) secret ingredient. IYKYK!
All in all, it was a day filled with laughter, connection, and the kind of joyful companionship that makes the GOC so special. Already looking forward to the next one.
