On a beautiful summers day with clear blue skies and a gentle sea breeze our band of 14 assembled by the Woodhenge in Worth Matravers. Having strolled towards the coast we split into 2 groups: one taking the strenuous cliff top route (involving a dip with 250 steps) the other taking a flat route.
We met up again at the 800 year old chapel on St Aldhelms Head by the coastguard station. Passing the site of the WW2 RAF airbase (where early Radar tests took place) we followed the coast path down to the former Winspit Quarry where we picnicked in the shade of the caves.
We again split into 2 groups: one taking a more challenging route further along the coast before heading inland, the other striking a path straight for the pub!
Both groups then re-assembled at the Square & Compass (Dorset's top cider pub) to enjoy a welcome pint and their excellent home made selection of pasties.
