Around the Wrekin? or Up the Wrekin?

Thanks to Peter Mansell for volunteering to lead an invigorating route around the Wrekin, although he offered the option of a hike to the top for members wanting a workout.

Most people from the West Midlands have heard of the expression, 'Going round the Wrekin' which generally means going the long way round and is used to describe long winded and often boring stories. However there was nothing boring about this varied day out. A pleasant wooded stroll through the forest on the north side of the distinctive hill led to our coffee stop. As we went out of the woods into the pleasantly sunny Shropshire countryside the group of 20 walkers split into two. The high level route climbed to the 407 metre high summit where one group had a scenic, if windswept, picnic enjoying views as far as the Welsh border. The lower route was a mile longer, but with impeccable timing both groups converged minutes apart at the bottom of the hill.

A lovely day out, well attended and blessed with sunshine. The Western Midlands group has five events in the next eight weeks (see link). We hope to see you on an event soon.
