It's LGBT History month – a time to look back, remembering those hidden achievements by so many unable to be themselves. Also a time to make YOUR mark in the GOC archives.
Fifty years ago the Daily Telegraph asked if gay men were fit to be Social Workers, the first Gay Christian Movement was founded and 2,000 attended London Pride. Spare Rib also noted that courts frequently removed children from Lesbian mothers.
Twenty five years ago John Curry won a Winter Olympic Gold and Peter Mandelson – yes he – had just been forced to resign from the Cabinet. Foot & Mouth disease ravaged the Countryside, the Ramblers association advice to its 250,000 members? Hang up your boots!
So,now let's recall those members (people like you) with stories, friends who came through smiling, weekends camping, AOGs, walks in a deluge ( topical) those first trips abroad, all making the GOC what is it today.
Our magazines and memories were shown at a recent AOG. If only today's media was available then, imagine how much more we would know about those who came on their journey before us. Podcasts, video clips and postings, yes there were faces before Facebook, (and a few twits around before Twitter!). Voices too, people of whom we say whatever happened to so-and-so?
Now we can create digital archives - you can help put something back into the GOC. We have already had interest in some members, and some who are happy to actually tell stories. We do need much more help now. Add to our GOC Memory. Do you also have the expertise, or know someone in our community who can assist?

Note
LGBT+ History Month is an annual, month-long observance held every February in the UK to celebrate the achievements and history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans people. Founded in 2005, it aims to increase the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community, promote equality, and educate the public on past struggles and progress. It is, simply, OUR history
