June arrived and with that Devon GOC welcomed the beginning of summer by venturing to the small town of Moretonhampstead. We enjoyed perfect weather on a walk of around 5 miles across the beautiful countryside to the nearby hamlet of North Bovey.
Setting off we ventured out of the town and headed in south western direction passing through wooded paths and up a steep hillside that gave fine views towards Dartmoor to the south and pasture land with spring lambs.
Around 12.30 we arrived at North Bovey. The village has a collection of fine thatched cottages and a pub. We stopped at the village green for our lunch and enjoyed the peace of a classic English village complete with horse riders, tractors and a village church clock that chimed on the quarter hours as we ate our sandwiches.
After lunch we continued a short way to the River Bovey which had 12 stepping stones. Thankfully no one fell in!!
We then continued and turned north west through meadows of flowers and sheep to a path that led us eventually to a country lane that brought us back to our starting point after negotiating a record number of gates, stiles and an electric fence.
Once back we had a well earned coffee and cake at the gay friendly Baskerville’s Café.
Thank you for coming and to all for your support on what was an enjoyable walk.
