Sunday 7th January 2024.
GOC Lincolnshire’s first outing of 2024 was a small but enthusiastic group of walkers. We departed Burgh le Marsh’s quaint Market Place at 11am and headed East along the characterful High Street and out of Town. Dobson’s Mill & Heritage Centre looked beautiful against the sky and the view back towards the elevated St. Peter & Paul’s Church was simply glorious. We took a Left heading North along the Public Footpath, through some hawthorn hedges, over a stile (or two), and into the famous farmlands of Lincolnshire.
We took a Right heading East towards Ashington End. From there the Public Footpath took us around the edge of Southview Holiday Park. We crossed the A158 and followed the water of the Main Drain all the way to the outskirts of Skegness at Warth Lane. The weather was perfect. A cloud-dappled sky and crisp seaside air.
We traversed the town of Skegness using the tranquil wooded footpath of Vine Walk and Coronation Walk. We could smell the sea before we could see it, Right onto Barbara Road, and onward to Princes Parade. We crossed the dunes onto the sea face and Promenade. Wow.
We reconnected with some friends near the (famous?) Skegness Clock Tower and given the time, the darkening clouds, and the falling temperature, we decided to have a late lunch back at the start of our journey in Burgh le Marsh.
Another great day walking and socialising with the folks of GOC Lincolnshire. Thank you and see you in February.
