On Sunday 10th December 10 members and friends of GOC Lincolnshire set off East in sunshine from Lincoln’s South Park. Our elevation provided spectacular views back out across the city with the Castle Walls and Cathedral dominating the glorious vista.
Our ascent through Canwick took us up to the fascinating International Bomber Command Centre, where we took in yet more views of the city; what a joy. The second leg of the walk took us along the ridgeline of the South Commons escarpment. There were a few tricky sections, jumping over muddy puddles and avoiding slick stones, but all of us made it safely to Cross O’Cliff Hill and London Road. We walked a little further along the ridge line, and then turned South towards Bracebridge and Boultham Park.
We met up with one of our regular members at The Lake in Boultham Park for a packed lunch. The gigantic bench and table there could accommodate us all, and we rested, ate, chatted, and made plans for the coming year. It was an idyllic spot and the local swans lived up to their reputation and “swanned about” as only they could do.
The final leg of our journey along the banks of a very swollen River Witham took us back towards St Catherines, The City, and back to our Starting Point. It was yet another glorious and memorable day with GOC Lincolnshire.
It was lovely to see a couple of new faces and of course welcome back some familiar ones.
We have events booked every month throughout 2024, and we’re looking forward to seeing you all there.
