On probably one of the hottest days so far this year a group of intrepid walkers dared expose themselves to the heat to join Chris Pote who led us initially on a jolly stroll along the ThamesĀ followed by a slightly more challenging ascent to the Goring and Hartslock Nature reserve which we had visited just a couple of weeks before to see the wild orchids when they were at their best. But on this visit even though the orchids in the Reserve were over there were still plenty on show in the verges and hillside surrounding the Reserve. Descending Hatton Hill we then headed gently back up through Great Chalk Wood in a loop until we began our descent again into Goring. By this stage some walkers were feeling the heat a little and the thought of a nice cold drink and pizza at the Catherine Wheel pub in Goring revived their spirits! As we sat in the garden we realised how lucky we all were living in a beautiful part of the country. A perfect finish to a lovely afternoon out. Thanks Chris for planning and leading us on this walk.
