Berkshire and Mid Thames:Circular walk in the South Chilterns from Ibstone via Turville and Fingest

It was an overcast and chilly morning as eleven of us gathered at Ibstone Common for a walk lead by Andy. Eleven of us turned up ready for a rather muddy walk with slopes down into Turville and steep slopes back to Ibstone. We welcomed a new GOC member on his first walk with us and hope to see him again soon on another walk.

The walk took us through woodland with good views of the valleys and hedgerows, that were beginning to blossom. The paths were muddy but we still managed a steady pace and soon were looking over Turville and the windmill. Turville being known for Vicar of Dibley and the windmill for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang along with other films and TV shows. The windmill is now a private house so only viewable from a distance.

We stopped in Turville for our packed lunch and it gave time for the walkers to visit the church and listen to the bumble bees in the cherry blossom trees. Also by the church was an old School road sign,

After lunch we continued out of Turville towards Fingest along muddy paths and met other walkers out on a fine Sunday. We had one steep muddy slope left to get us up to the road and see the windmill again and a good view over Turville before finishing walking on a quiet road back to Ibstone Common.
