This five and a bit mile walk started from Radstock in the heart of the former north Somerset coal mining area.
Never a fantastically prosperous coalfield, it none-the-less spawned a network of railway lines and spoil heaps - known locally as batches. Closure of the former gave rise to a network of footpaths and the latter becoming landmark features.
Very suitable for this time of year, this walk followed the former Bristol & North Somerset railway to Midsomer Norton, before climbing the hill via a nature reserve, to Midsomer South station.
Sandwiches were consumed and the track of the Somerset and Dorset railway was followed back to Radstock.
Refreshments were had in the Radstock Hotel, following which, three members visited the nearby Radstock museum. Shout-out to the museum, it's worth a visit.
