Watlington Hill walk

Andrew Walker kindly led our walk through the south Oxfordshire countryside on a gloriously sunny day. We set off from the NT car park on Watlington Hill and  headed off through the leafy woods, the leaves on the trees adorned in their autumnal colours. We passed wide sweeping open pastures and walked on footpaths often edged with ancient flints and walked up valleys which offered beautiful views over the adjoining countryside. There were one or two slight ascents just to keep us on our toes! We stopped for lunch at the Fox and Hounds at Christmas Common. This 500-years-old pub is situated in the little hamlet of Christmas Common on the top of the Chiltern Hills. It is said that the signing of a truce at Christmas during the English Civil War gave this idyllic little hamlet its name.  It was here we ate our Sunday roasts under a Marquee in the pub garden. Some walkers took up the option of finishing their walks at the pub while others joined Andrew after lunch to complete the walk.  I hope all who walked enjoyed it as much as I did!
