Social night out at the Progress Theatre Reading

A small group of us met at the Progress Theatre in Reading to see a play The Pride written by  Alexi Kaye Campbell and  premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 2008. It explores how sex, love and relationships intertwine when external pressures conflict with your innermost feelings about gay life and love in the 1950s and 2008. It was often touching and poignant. There were moments of humour as well as a disturbing scene of male rape.

Some of our members found the play difficult to relate to to while others found it stimulating and an opportunity to do some self reflection! Whatever our feelings were about the play the evening provided an opportunity for us all to get together again outside our regular walks and to see something different in an intimate and forward looking repertory theatre in Reading.

It was great to see those members who attended the evening and we missed those who were unable to attend either because of Covid or last minute commitments.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Kind regards

Simon
