Shotover, Wheatley, Nr OXFORD – SAT 5th March 2022

Hi Gang,

Another fairly dry, if not a cold wind on exposed areas, with the expected mud. I wanted to visit the old Oxford to Thame Railway as it exited from under Horspath and Shotover tunnel. Discovered, now a Nature Reserve we were able to descend into the cutting, following it to Littleworth.

First set back, a possible pub visit was prevented by a notice "NO STUPID PEOPLE" so clearly intended for the majority of our group we headed on into Wheatley where we were welcomed "With open arms" at a cafe with outside seating, home made food and cakes.

Return was through Shotover Park, with its 18c "Canal Lake" follies and mile long avenue of Lime Trees.

Ultimately the twelve of us resumed the level back in time for Florence (Andrew W) " To come down from his Tree" and get off to do his "Night Shift" looking after a recently discharged hospital patient - "Are there no skills that he can do?" - Obviously he would have been welcome at the pub!!!!

Thanks for your support, Bill
