All the planning in the world couldn't predict that the village scout group would be holding a car boot sale at the rendezvous point for the walk on Sunday but the six walkers managed to drag themselves away from the bargains to walk the 12 miles that lay ahead. The weather was on our side with sun and a pleasant breeze as we made our way up out of Clanfield village towards Leydean and the South Downs Way for the gentle hill climb to Butser Hill. We then made our way down into the Queen Elizabeth Country Park before heading off to the Village of Chalton for a well earned lunch at the Red Lion. The biggest trial lay ahead with the walk up to the top of Windmill Hill where we took in the spectacular views out over the surounding countryside including Butser Ancient Farm and the Solent. Plenty of blackberries were consumed on the way back into Clanfield where the boot sale had long departed.
