West Kent – Mayfield, Tidebrook, Chittinghurst & Wadhurst Park – 1st September, 2019

We met in the pretty village of Mayfield with brilliant warm sun for this month's walk.  The walk took us to the north-east in the direction of Tidebrook, through coppiced woods and meadows in charming countryside, with little sign of the iron industry that once exploited the local mineral and timber resources. We passed through Chittinghurst and close to the Wadhurst Park Lake where we stopped for lunch and enjoyed watching the deer taking a dip in the lake.  After lunch, we skirted Batt’s Wood and from Hare Holt we headed west, following the River Rother, and passed through Merrieweather, admiring the charming houses on our way, to return to Mayfield, where we all met for welcome after walk drinks in a local pub. Another excellent walk, many thanks to all those that attended and especially to Chris Dance for organising and leading.
