West Kent – Hale Street ramble – 4th February, 2024.

Our first walk of 2024 attracted 12 guys. A very mild day with a keen wind, could spring be on the way ?

The walk was very flat, walking over the wide Medway flood plain, through orchards with ancient trees, and into hop fields.  We passed a few oast houses, typical of the Kentish countryside around and along quiet lanes where derelict farm buildings had been converted into expensive looking residential accommodation.

We stopped for our picnic lunch out of the wind in the shelter of farm buildings. Afterwards, continuing along lanes and across fields with wide views to the Greensand ridge in the distance.

Towards the end of the walk, most of us descended into the pleasant and quaint country pub, The Bush Blackbird and Thrush, for quick drink (it would be an excellent venue for socialising in the warm summer months!). A short walk then back to the start in Hale Street.

A lovely day with great company, thanks to everyone that joined us. Thanks especially to Leo Sturgeon who led this month's walk.
