West Kent – Fairwarp and Ashdown Forest circular walk – 3rd July, 2022.

A good turnout for this month's walk from Fairwarp with two welcome new members, Greg and Jody (and Faith, the dog!).  Nick led us across the upper part of Ashdown Forest up to Camp Hill clump, where the header photo was taken. Beautiful views all around.

Lunch was further around the forest, at a raised area which may have been an ancient burial mound.  After lunch, we continued down toward impressive gates leading to a mansion, Old Lodge, now owned by an Arabian shiekh. The surrounding fields had many healthy young horses frolicking around presumably owned by the shiekh.

Further on around and on the homeward stretch at a high point, there were impressive views toward the South Downs on the horizon, such a clear day.

Back in Fariwarp, we visited the Forrester's Arms for a customary drink or two before saying our goodbyes.

An excellent day, with superb company. Thanks to Nick for leading a great walk.

Colin Turner.
