WED 13TH MARCH – WANDER AROUND OXFORD, CHRISTCHURCH MEADOW, SCIENCE MUSEUM

Hi Gang,

Wednesday 13th March was Ron's first walk as leader. Four joined him from the Oxford Bonn Square (unfortunately quite a few of our regular members were away or had other commitments).

We first headed towards Christchurch and down into Christchurch Meadow, following the River Cherwell - past carpets of daffodils - reaching the point were the Cherwell enters the River Thames. It was pleasing to see the buildings facing out on to the river, but from the other side. It was pleasing as we haven't done that area for some considerable time.

Time for a Morning Coffee and nibbles at the quiet Town Hall Cafe. Refreshed, onĀ  through the back streets to the Science Museum, Broad Street with its amazing collection of mechanical equipment housed in the original Ashmolean Museum. Interesting to see how the "Great Oxford Institute" started with such a modest building.

Across the road to The King's Arms for our usual social meal followed by a slow wander back down to the Railway Station.

Thanks Ron for all your planning, already has wonderful ideas for future explorations. We look forward to joining you. Thanks to those that attended.

Paul and Bill
