We escaped the heat to some quiet East London backwaters…..

Despite a sultry 28C blasting the city (for weeks if feels like!), 34 brave souls sought refuge, in what turned out to be a lovely cooling wander through parts of East London many were surprised existed.  Led capably by Steve Forde, the last of our mid week, mid summer, evening walks, we escaped into a series of hidden backwaters, including St Katherine's Dock, the tranquil Ornamental Canal, Wapping Woods, Shadwell and Limehouse Basins, ducking in and out of the Thames Path, and finally crossing the vast North Dock in Canary Wharf. There were several new members, lots and lots of the usual chat and nonsense that goes on, which continued in the vacuous Wetherspoons Pub where we finally finished!  The latter was heaving, long waits advised for fodder, but it soon appeared, to great relief!

I have to say that while we don't have the endless green fields, vast forests, hills and mountains of our sister groups outside London, we more than make it up when we discover hidden, cool and tranquil pockets such as this within our great city!

Thanks Steve!
