Despite a not very encouraging weather forecast the sun finally came out towards the end of our enjoyable walk through Buckler Park and Swinley Forest. For some of us who had not walked in this part of Berkshire before it was amazing to see just what a large area of forested footpaths and open avenues lined by spruce and other fir trees existed so near to the nearby towns of Wokingham and Bracknell.
As our walk concluded we walked for a short distance on what remains of the test track originally used by the Transport Research Laboratory at Bucklers Park in Crowthorne. This was used for vehicle testing, research and innovative developments, such as the mini-roundabout, the zebra crossing and the Green Cross Code. It has now been developed for new housing.
At the end of the walk we enjoyed an excellent meal at the Golden Retriever pub at Nine Mile Ride - the Sunday Roast was particularly popular!
