Notwithstanding the best efforts of TFL and GWR, there was a good attendance for an enjoyable ramble from Henley on Thames up the Chilterns to Fawley and back along the river.
Glorious sunshine and fine views were in the package along with much leaf kicking in the beech woods. We also took time to admire John Piper's vibrant tree of life window in Fawley church. He and his wife Myfanwy (who wrote libretti for Benjamin Britten) lie in the graveyard.
We ate some lunch at the crest of a hill with fine views down to the river and gambolled thru sheep dotted water meadows before taking a bridge across a canal leading to Fawley Court which may have been designed by Sir Christopher Wren.
There was a good crowd for tea and fine cake after at the River & Rowing Museum Café.
