The Midland Railway through Bath 20 November 2016

An intrepid band of venturers braved the late November storms and.....well, actually we were fortunate that the heavy rain Saturday night stopped in time for this six and a half mile walk following the line of the old Midland railway through Bath.

Starting from the west, the walk followed to its' end the Bristol/Bath cycle path, before picking up a series of green corridors behind the houses of Newbridge and Weston. Crossing the Avon lead to the Two Tunnels Greenway, created from the Bath/Bournemouth railway line. A steady gradient climbed upto and through the Devonshire tunnel where the route diverted up a somewhat steeper incline out of the hidden Lyncombe vale to emerge breathlessly overlooking Bath from the viewpoint known as Beechen Cliff.

Sandwiches consumed and legs rested, the refreshed band of travellers picked thier way down the wooded hillside to join the Avon towpath and follow it back to the start beside the fast flowing river swelled by the recent rains.

The walk displayed a supprisingly green (almost rural) oasis through an urban environment.

End of walk refreshments were taken in the 'boathouse' pub to the accompanyment of someone wittering on about plans for next year......many thanks to all who attended, your company made it worthwhile.
