This joint Solent/Sussex walk was led by Justin on a snowy morning starting at Stoughton, north west of Chichester. Walking through varying landscapes, woodland to open fields with fantastic views, we stopped for a coffee break at St Michael's Church, Up Marden. Dating from the 13th century, having no electricity & being lit by candlelight.
Proceeding at a good pace, we spotted deer & a lone hare before arriving at Compton village where we stopped for lunch at the Coach & Horses pub. Established as a coaching inn about 1660, it is run by the current owners, Christiana & her husband, since 1985 but is reminiscent of a charming village pub of the 1950's / 60's complete with open fires & bar billiards.
Fortified by a hearty lunch, we completed the 10.5 mile walk seeing wild daffodils, pungeant wild garlic & a close-up of a Buzzard feeding on roadkill.
