Despite a cold grey day with the threat of rain 14 members met at Wittersham church. The first half of the walk had some lovely apple blossom and woodland with steep little valleys and bluebells. Lunch was in the welcome shelter of Stone Church with its remains of a Roman altar. From the high ground we descended the former cliffs to flat marshland and an old shepherd’s hut complete with fireplace and straw bales which sent some people’s imaginations into overdrive ! We then followed the Royal Military Canal for a mile and the river Rother before a final steep uphill section to reach Wittersham church again. The threatened rain was only drizzle by the finish. Thanks to Gary for another varied and interesting walk.
