Sherborne, Glos, 13th October 2019

We did the practice run in fantastic sunshine last Sunday. The Cotswold plateau views were spectacular.
The forecast for this Sunday looked bleak on Friday evening and the expected 20 walkers looked more likely to be 10. However, on Saturday evening the forecast improved and it looked like we would be rain free from the start of the walk and that proved to be the case with 19 walkers.
A lot of the walk was on country lanes so we were fairly mud free. We passed Lodge Park and John gave us the history of the hunting lodge.  Lunch was at the pretty Cotswold village on the green at Aldsworth.  After lunch the 13 more vigorous walkers joined Mark on a field trip with a few styles.  I lead the others up the more direct road back to the busy A40 and we played Percy Pig, as devised by Ian, on the way!
We all met up about 3pm to follow the lane down to Sherbourne Village and then back to the cars in the large lay-by through Sherborne Park for 4 pm. We tried to get some tea and cake from the Old Prison at Northleach, but it was already closed so we headed to a Northleach pub, which was busy with plenty for the eye.
An enjoyable day with a weather improvement that made the difference.
Tom Clark.
