Sgwd yr Eira a Chraig y Ddinas

On our second visit to a waterfall this year, Gail chose to lead us to the well-known Sgwd yr eira from Penderyn, rather than one of the traditional routes from Ystradfellte or Pontneddfechan.  We were treated to fine views down the Neath valley and out over the moorland towards Pen y fan and other peaks in the Brecon Beacons. We descended into the gorge to view this beautiful waterfall, both from the front and behind.  Having managed the steep climb out of the gorge, we headed to the Mellte valley. After lunch at the site of an old gunpowder factory deep in the gorge it was off to Craig y Ddinas and then a steady climb back over the moorland to Penderyn.

Cychwynnodd Gail y daith at Sgwd yr eira o Benderyn, yn hytrach na’r llwybrau cyfarwydd o Ystradfellte neu Pontneddfechan.  Roedd golygfeydd bendigedig ar hyd Dyffryn Nedd ac ar draws y gweundir at Ben y fan a’r Bannau.  Bu rhaid disgyn yn serth i’r ceunant at Sgwd yr Eira a dringo ‘nol i ail ymuno a’r llwybr at yr afon Mellte.  Wedi bwyta’n brechdanau ger adfeilion hen weithdy ffrwydron, aethon ymlaen at Graig y Ddinas, cyn dringo’n raddol yn ôl dros y gweundir at Benderyn.
