It’s a sign of the camaraderie of the Western Midlans Group that when poor health prevented Ray Jones from leading his planned walk, Chris T, John W and I all volunteered to lead the walk for him. We started the walk on the banks of the River Severn and then proceeded up a steep climb into Ribbesford Woods passing the historic 16th C Ribbesford House. Currently undergoing major renovation the house has links to William the Conqueror and Charles de Gaulle. After a woodland coffee stop the group of 24 walkers and 3 dogs encountered a new experience crossing a field used by 4x4 enthusiasts to test their metal! Unscathed we rejoined the river, crossing at Stourport-on-Severn where we enjoyed a lunch stop in the park. A gentle stroll back up the river in warm sunshine with views of Bewdley Town football club and major water pipeline works provided a easy end to the walk. The majority of the walkers then enjoyed a chat, tea and ice creams out doors on the banks of the river in Bewdley. Paul A. We all hope Ray makes a speedy recovery.
