12 members belonging to the Adventure Out section of GOC, spent 1 week in the Picos de Europe, a mountain range in Spain's largest national park, close to the Northern Calambrian coast.
The park is renowned for high peaks, deep gorges, beach forests, wildlife incl vultures, wolves, Chamois, brown bear, to name but a few, and blue cheese making.
We stayed in the beautiful Sotres village, 1050 metres above sea level, heart of the Picos, with the delightful Juanjo and his family at their family run Casa Cipriano hotel.
The schedule was busy and included high ascents of Picos Carlos & Samelar, 2212m & 2236m respectively. We also climbed up to the Refugio at Naranjo de Bulnes, 1960m, alongside the iconic Pico Uriellu, 2518m. We also did an epic 24km trec along the Cares Gorge from Poncebos to Cain and back again.
Though exhausted and smelly by the end, everyone agreed the week had been a success.
