Moreton Forest and the Piddle Valley: 21 Mar 2019

On a cloudy but dry spring day our group of 10 plus dog set off along the ridge path through Moreton Forest to spy stag and deer before emerging in the grounds of Cliffe House. Descending into the Piddle Valley we reached the tiny churchyard at Athelhampton for a refreshment break.

We continued along the banks of the Piddle River passing through dairy farms and fishing lakes to reach the pretty hamlet of Affpuddle where we explored the church. A short climb along an ancient avenue brought us back to the start whereon we retreated to the Martyrs Arms in nearby Tolpuddle for a tasty lunch.
