Misty Moors! Devon GOC Sunday 5th June 2022

A heavy mist on Dartmoor meant that we had to abandon the planned open moor walk to the East Dart waterfall in favour of something safer.  Luckily from the same starting point we were able to walk to Bellever Tor on mostly made up paths and then down to the banks of the East Dart river for lunch.

The walk to the tor (invisible in the mist) was very atmospheric taking us over 440m above sea level. The band of 12 walkers and 1 dog were soon able to make out the grey bulk of the tor emerging from the mist.

Views from the tor were limited (to say the least!) but heading down hill and into the forest things became clearer and we eventually emerged on to the river bank where a fallen tree provided perfect seating for lunch.

A different route from that planned but nevertheless a most enjoyable day which showed us Dartmoor in one of its spookiest moods!

The walk to the East Dart waterfall will be rearranged for another day.
