Stephen led a group on this circular walk in and around Merthyr Tydfil taking in fascinating industrial heritage, two castles, two viaducts, rivers, and quarries. Walking in the footsteps of iron workers and their wealthy masters, the route headed over the River Taff to the site of the old Cyfarthfa Ironworks before it headed up the Taff Trail along a green corridor out of town. The route then looped back to climb to the summit of Morlais Hill, site of a ruined Norman castle, before it returned along the banks of the delightful cascading Taf Fechan river, back to the start. Yet another very hot day (we never thought we would write that statement!) and a good few climbs, but another real delight of a walk in this very interesting area.
