Merely a walk 6 May 2018

A cloudless sky and temperatures indecently high for early May welcomed a dozen cheerful souls (and two dogs) to the panoramic delights of south west Wiltshire.

Starting with a steep ascent from Mere to the site of its castle, the walk followed field paths and by-ways via the Stourhead estate before rising to Whitesheet hill. This is an area of downland beyond the south west corner of Salisbury plain, affording fine (if hazy) views in all directions. The return to Mere was a leisurely descent, finishing with a fascinating stroll through the town itself.

Many thanks to everyone who turned up making it so enjoyable and thanks to Steve W. for planning and leading the walk. Thanks also to the gentleman who bought the sunshine with him all the way from the Americas.
