Kennet Valley & Savernake Forest

A pleasantly warm mid-October day saw a fine bunch of friendly souls (plus one dog - also friendly) gather outside Marlborough town hall for this 10 mile east Wiltshire walk.

Following the Kennet valley eastwards along field paths and water meadows, never far from the chalk stream itself and its amazingly clear water.  Past rural dwellings about which one dare not ask their price, before heading south and ascending the hillside to Savernake forest.

After lunch beneath the trees - along with our coordinator showing off his tree climbing skills - there followed much walking along forest paths before dropping back down the hillside and returning to Marlborough using a section of disused railway line we had earlier crossed earlier.

Many thanks to Ted for putting on this much appreciated walk, to Bill F. for supplying the pictures and to all those who came along and made it the success it was.
