This morning at breakfast I was met by a party of 2 walking on from Hartland Quay to Morwenstowe, about half the distance I was walking to Bude. They had fears about me completing the distance. On my other side another was a party of 2 who had arrived the previous day from Mortenstowe. When he heard I was walking to Bude, he laughed a little hysterically. This with my memories of walking this stretch and being one of only 5 severe ratings in the guide book was playing with my mind.
It was a tough day with 10 rivers to cross all in steep sided valleys with multiple steps on both sides, taxing on knees and back, but I got through it and arrived in Bude about 4pm. It was windy and mainly sunny, with bright blue seas with bright white crests to them, exhilarating.
Today also marked the crossing of the border into Cornwall, Yippee, and my 5th and last Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Now using my final guidebook. It feels like the beginning of the end.
The feature picture is the view from Hawker's Hut, a hideaway for an eccentic local cleric in the period of smugglers and wreckers
