Highland Hogmanay, Tyndrum 30/12/14 – 02/01/15

Wednesday 31st December 2014

With a forecast of 100 mph winds and heavy rain for the 1st January, we decided to head off up the local Corbett of Beinn Chuirn (880m) today (31st December) as our last summit of 2014.  We can relax a bit tomorrow as at least we've made it up one mountain this week.....

Friday 2nd January 2015

With New Year's day being almost a complete washout, (some of us did a 6 mile low level walk to St Fillan's Priory in the pouring rain - the rivers were however quite spectacular in spate) the forecast for Friday 2nd Jan was a little better, but with strong winds with showers of sleet and hail forecast, we didn't have much hope of being able to make it up a Munro on this trip. We chose to try Stob a'Choire Odhar (945m) in the Blackmount hills as this is a non-technical hill and a walk up it should be fairly straightforward.  The strong wind and blown snow mixed in with hail made the going tough at times; the summit of the mountain was certainly no place to linger as it was almost imposible to stand up in the wind so we beat a hasty retreat after snatching a couple of photos for posterity. A good day enjoyed by all though.
