Being a native Herefordian, I was delighted to be joined by 13 other walkers whilst I indulged myself in walking in some of the footsteps I enjoyed as a boy. From outside the city we retraced the steps I took walking home from school, past my junior school and through parks and fields that buffer the city. With references to the Civil War, railway history as well as some more personal memories. Through the Castle Green, and to the cathedral for lunch and a small tour of this beautiful building. Onwards through High Town, I was happy to show the very much neglected, and little known canal that once made its way over from Gloucester.....rather like I did !!
From the ruins of the Blackfriars Priory and back through the city along the best part of what's left of the city walls, we tried to find the once, but now nicked, embedded Parliamentary canon ball. Back along the river for some more personal revelations, and too the cars, relieved the forecasted rain never really touched us.
A happy day for me, with such great company
