North Eastern Gower's Hidden Valley

Russ has led our November walk for some years now and he always manages to summon up dry weather.The forecast earlier in the week had been for showers all day but a little hocus pocus from Russ, plus a sprinkling of fairy dust and a (no ) rain dance/Strictly strut around his lounge brought the desired effect, a lovely dry autumn day.

The route he had chosen starting in Gowerton was lovely and even locals found themselves in some areas they hadn't walked around before.

After one aborted attempt, Russ had reccied this walk all by himself, a major achievement and one that was going to turn into a treat for all of us....

Haworth, Millenium Way and the Bronte Waterfall.

An inspired walk across Heathcliff's ghostly stamping ground to Withens top past the Bronte waterfalls and along the Millennium way. Fine views over the Worth valley and the misty moors above Haworth. Finishing with a pilgrimage and a Pint in the Black Bull pub. Thanks to Alex for leading her first walk for GOC and to everyone else for supporting it and making it such a great day. Here's a few photos.

Truro Day and Idless Woods

Today was a great one here in Cornwall as the group managed to combine a walk with a look around a local event taking place in Truro. Truro meant altering our starting point for the walk but it was well worth it. Martin lead the group, consisting of Richard, Terry, Debbie, Adam, Matt, Steve, Neville and myself in and around Idless woods climbing up the famous locally known 'Forty' steps which actually consists of more than seventy. From here we entered Kenwyn Churchyard where Martin pointed out various different Commonwealth Graves from different eras....

West End Farm camping and walking weekend

Thursday 16th August saw the early birds turn up for this annual gathering. Quiet a few turned up on Thursday and spent Friday doing their own thing whilst waiting for the remainder of the campers to arrive. By early Friday evening, 30 happy campers where all catching up with each other over tea and cake. Saturday saw John S take us out from the camp site on a 8 mile walk around the area. Saturday evening saw approx 40 people attend the local pub for a carvery. Sunday we ventured into Mablethorpe for a stroll along the sand, chips, ice cream and a ride on the sand train....
