Hazelmere to the Devil's Punchbowl

24 Sep 2018 | Surrey Group

The day started inauspiciously: the weather forecast was ominous threatening heavy rain for the morning, not clearing until about 1400 and there were engineering works between Guildford and Haslemere.

However, four brave souls drove through the heavy rain and we waited for the rail replacement buses to arrive, just in case there were any more walkers. With Robert leading we headed out in light rain but by midday the rain stopped, and we paused at the NT café at Hindhead for restorative coffees. After ...

A wander round wonderful Woldingham

27 Aug 2018 | Surrey Group

Despite the leaden skies 25 of us including two new members set off on the walk round Woldingham, led by Judy through some stunning countryside. As the rain intensified so did our determination to press on regardless, after a morning coffee break we enjoyed some impressive views of the Northdowns on route to Judy & Alice's house. It was agreed that owing to persistent precipitation that we would shorten the afternoon walk back to Woldingham station....

There were occasional distant views either towards Leith Hill and its tower or to the South Downs. Dappled shade covered us on most of the route which was most welcome....

Effingham Forest and Netley Heath

27 Jun 2018 | Surrey Group

The sun shone all the day during our walk on Sunday and twenty two walkers (plus one dog) enjoyed a stunning walk led by Patrick L. The recent dry spell meant that the walk was mud free, I cannot recall when that last happened. About half of the walk was through woodland so we walked in dappled shade as well as the sun. Lunch was on the North Downs with spectacular views and opportunities to sit in either the shade or the sun. We did start the walk with Sue, Kate & Pops but they had to leave the walk early and I forgot to take their photos before they left the walk – Doh....
