Chipping Campden

On Sunday 13th of May, 24 men and one dog set off from Chipping Campden on a 9 mile hike. The predicted weather had become more hopeful in the previous 24 hours and the day started with mixed sun and cloud, but it certainly did look promising.

The route set out across the Conygree, passing the old Manor House, burnt down during the civil war and on to the hamlet of Broad Campden where the topiary was much admired. We then started up the escarpment where the fine vistas over the surrounding countryside began to unfold....

Wandering from Winchcombe

On Sunday 8th April a group of 15 including South Midlands Group members and a visiting GOCer from down south, accompanied by Max the dog, set off from Winchcombe for an 8 mile walk in the surrounding hills. Setting off via the impressive Sudeley Castle the group soon reached the coffee stop at the remains of the Roman Courtyard Villa in Spoonley Wood. Canons Ashby and Preston Capes

Twenty of us, including some very well turned out gents in Wellington boots, set out from the National Trust property at Canons Ashby in South Northamptonshire on a nine mile walk to Preston Capes and back. We had sunny weather in the morning so we got to see good views of Everdon and Snorscomb before taking our lunch break in Preston Capes. The weather held until the end of the afternoon when there was just a little light rain. We returned to the start point in time for refreshments in the National Trust Tea Room, GOC heaven!

Cold Aston, Gloucs, 11th Feb 2018.

South Midlands group returned to the Cotswolds today for an excellant 6.5 mile walk starting from Cold Aston, Gloucs.

Many thanks to John for discovering this walk and sharing it with us.

Cold Aston certainly lived up to its name today, but a little winter sunshine and spectacular views kept spirits high. Sixteen walkers, plus Frankie the dog, thoroughly enjoyed a very social and convivial walk.
