East Midlands Derbyshire Walk

Thirteen people and one dog set out on a 9.5 mile walk on a sunny autumn day, including two new members, we headed along the Cromford canal until we stopped for lunch at High Peak Junction. From there the hard work began, as we steadily climbed up the Derbyshire hills into woodlands returning along the Mid-shires way, taking in some of the stunning views that Derbyshire has to offer, before taking care of the tricky desend back to the car park where some walkers headed off for a well deserved drink at the local pub....

Harlestone and the Bramptons - 21st October 2018

Five walkers (one on their first GOC walk), and Maisy the dog, met up along the Brampton Valley Way for an eight mile walk around Harlestone, Church Brampton and Chapel Brampton near Northampton. We headed off towards Kingsthorpe before heading west over the railway towards Harlestone Heath. It was very autumnal with the leaves falling in front of us as we walked through the woods. Once over the busy A428 we visited Upper and Lower Harlestone where we had our coffee and lunch stops....

West End Farm camping and walking weekend

Thursday 16th August saw the early birds turn up for this annual gathering. Quiet a few turned up on Thursday and spent Friday doing their own thing whilst waiting for the remainder of the campers to arrive. By early Friday evening, 30 happy campers where all catching up with each other over tea and cake. Saturday saw John S take us out from the camp site on a 8 mile walk around the area. Saturday evening saw approx 40 people attend the local pub for a carvery. Sunday we ventured into Mablethorpe for a stroll along the sand, chips, ice cream and a ride on the sand train....

Bernard Shell Island weekend

Bernards Shell Island Weekend

was certainly a bit different this year.

Due to a carnival event on the Island, there was a last minute change of venue, so another site was found, and everyone informed via the GOC website.

The usual Saturday walk was replaced this year by a trip on the Talyllyn Railway . Twenty of the party 5 women and 15 men steamed up the line from Tywyn Wharf to Nant Gwernol and back through beautiful countryside.

The Saturday evening meal at a local Hotel Ty Mawr was excellent as usual and we had the restaurant room to ourselves all 22 of us....
