On Sunday the 29th of October 11 members met at Hastingleigh village pond for an 8-9 mile circular walk through some of the most remote areas of the North Downs.
We were led by Robert who had based the walk around the 3 parish churches of Hastingleigh, Elmsted and Waltham known as The Parish upon the Hills and just getting there it was already a bit of an adventure down very narrow lanes!
The weather was dry and became increasingly sunny with beautiful downland views through long valleys with the autumn colours approaching their best.
We found all 3 churches open with plenty of historical interest but the best was lunch taken at The Timber Batts in Bodsham, an old village pub with log fire and beams as to be expected but the MOST bizarre collection of artefacts including skulls and stuffed animals, a pinball machine, leather barbers chairs, collection of daggers and much else..., and outside, a working blacksmith forge and a tethered Harris Hawk by the tables in the garden. It has to be seen to be belived!
