Celebrations were the order of this day on this GOC Surrey walk: Ian and Warren celebrated the first anniversary of their wedding day; Ian also celebrated his thirtieth birthday (perhaps not the first thirtieth birthday Ian has celebrated) and husband Warren had celebrated his birthday last Friday. Judy and Alice converted their civil partnership to a marriage this month and marked the event with new sparkling rings confirming that diamonds are a girl's (or a boy’s) best friend. Our congratulations to these happy couples.
After all these announcements, 21 of us, plus two dogs, set off up a long climb of the day to reach Marley common followed by Linchmere and Stanley commons complete with grazing belted Galloway cattle. We didn’t see a lot of sunshine but it was warm and ideal for walking and the few spots of rain were not sufficient to need any raingear.
After lunch we encountered some more woodland paths with dappled shade and walk leader Gordon enjoyed a spot of horse riding on Rubber-Dobbin as you can see in the pictures – will that man ever grown up?
At the end of the walk we tucked into teas and a selection of fine cakes, thanks to our experts bakers and marketeers:-
Tarte au citron – Rupert
Pear and pecan crumble cake – Alice
Coffee Walnut cake – Justin
Chocolate, fruit and nut fingers – James
Plum and almond cake – Gordon
