First official GOC Gardens event takes place at Crai NGS Open Gardens in Powys on 23-07-2023

With a very mixed weather forecast for the first official GOC Gardens outing, thirteen of us (plus dog) descended on the little village of Crai, in Bannau Brycheiniog (formerly known as the Brecon Beacons) for their National Garden Scheme Open Day. There were four gardens open, all very different and all a testament to the passion of their owners. We were especially taken with the railway carriage, converted into cosy accomodation, and adjacent hot tub, that can be hired as an unusual place to stay, and also the clever design of a garden lovingly created and cared for by two GOC members. The  personal touches and interesting features make the gardens so special. Most of the gardens also boasted stunning backdrops of distant hills and valleys.  Lots of ‘did you see?’ Or ‘ooh, I like this’.  We rounded off the trip with the mandatory coffee & tasty homemade cakes in the Village Hall, where we were joined by friends to celebrate a very successful first event. Everyone seemed to enjoy and are looking forward to more fun days like these.
