Fan y Big, Brecon Beacons

On a most stunning, but very hot day, Peter led a group through this most majestic part of the Brecon Beacons.  We were promised an inspiring and fantastic walk in the heart of the Beacons and we were not disappointed.  After an initial strenuous climb to around 2000 feet, the rest of the walk was relatively moderate, taking in the ridges of both Craig y Fan Ddu and Graig Fan Las, and followed the dramatic, curving rim of the main north-facing escarpment of the Beacons to Fan y Big.  After lunch, looking out at both Corn Du and Pen y Fan in the near distance in all their splendour, the route descended to the 'Gap Road' and followed the Roman road above the Neuadd Reservoirs, before following a pleasant, scenic route along the Taff Trail through Taf Fechan Forest.  A hot, sweaty, but most memorable day.
