Dorset Group: Shillingstone/Hambledon Hill/Child Okeford 08/10/2017

The start-point for the walk proved difficult to find for some of the participants, and at 10.50 there were still only three of us,  However, we eventually amassed a party of ten, eager to ascend the heights of Hambledon Hill. The first mile or so was easy-going on the Trailway created from the former S&D railway trackbed.

The day was sunny and warm and once on the hill summit there was much conjecture as to the identities of far distant hills and features.

Some of us picnicked where we could enjoy the outstanding views; others descended into Child Okeford where they enjoyed a plentiful Sunday roast.  Three went back to their cars from the pub, only a mile away as the crow flies.

The afternoon took took the remainder of us across farmland to the hamlet of Hammoon, from where we returned via the Trailway to our cars, finishing at 3.45pm. All agreed it was a good walk and the weather was perfect.
