On a blustery day following the wettest February since records began our brave band of 7 set out for a 6 mile stroll around the wonders of Horton. We ascended the sheep strewn hill to view the folly of Horton Tower and then escaped the icy winds by disappearing into Ferndown Forest only to be greeted by a long, heavy shower.
A muddy bridleway past a brimming fishing lake led us out of the forest to the pretty hamlet of Horton Heath. We meandered up the hill through the cottages to reach Woodland Park; now home to an exclusive Golf Club.
Having traversed the exquisitely coiffured grounds and high security gated housing we reached an extensive stud farm before crossing farmland into the hamlet of Haythorne and then Horton. A welcome and enjoyable legstretcher in the spring fresh if damp air was completed with a pint at the local Horton Inn.
