On an exceptionally hot and sunny day a brave band of 10 set off through the shady woods at Kingston to reach the Hounstout Cliff with outstanding views of the Jurassic coast in both directions; a steep descent to Chapmans Pool and stroll up the valley to Renscombe united us with a further 4 companions.

We marched out to St Aldhelms Head to enjoy the welcome cool shade of the 800 year old chapel. A beautiful stroll along the cliffs covered in wild flowers and butterflies brought us down to the sea at Winspit where we picniced in the caves of the old quarry.

Ascending through heat exhausted sheep we reached the pretty hamlet of Worth Matravers for a well earned pint at the Square & Compass before retreating to Vue Plaisant House for a sumptuous buffet in the gardens by kind invitation of Laurence, our event leader.
