On a warm sunny morning, 4 members, one dog and one guest set off on a 3-mile circular walk, partly following the River Stour. We were obviously getting privileged treatment as, almost at the beginning of the walk, we encountered a group of volunteers clearing our path.
We soon reached bridge and weir with a serene view of the river, where we spotted a couple of moorhens and a kestrel hovering above.
At Merritown, we took a small diversion to see the Pony Palace, where you can go for riding lessons etc. On our return, we walked past the sadly neglected Throop Mill before finding our cars and repairing to the nearby Kingfisher Cafe for refreshments.
