A lovely sunny day greeted our happy band of 8 plus dog as we traversed the valley to climb the Purbeck Ridge at Ulwell. The summit yielded spectacular views of Swanage Bay and the Isle of Wight; we then ambled along Nine Barrow Down passing the iron age barrows to be greeted by further wide ranging views across Poole Harbour on one side and the Jurassic Coast on the other; finally decending into Corfe Castle for lunch.

Our return to Herston commenced with a stroll across Corfe Common and along the Swanage Railway before climbing to the village of Langton Matravers for a refreshing pub stop. The last leg included much wild life spotting as we met the local gang of alpaca, passed a herd of curious deer and even spotted a green parakeet! Our 10 mile trek was rewarded by a hearty tea back at our leader's house.
